Hygiene is nothing to be ashamed of. Mental health struggles, such as depression, can result in the loss of motivation to keep up self care habits that seem routine. Internal battles show up physically, which may include missing showers or living in an increasingly messy room. It is easy to judge others when these signs are present, but we should instead be aware of the causes. In this video, the routines of two girls are put side by side. One makes breakfast and brushes her teeth while the other is unable to get out of bed. However, because she has shared her experiences with her loved ones, she is able to receive the help she needs to start her day. Reducing the stigma behind mental health and hygiene starts by reaching out in dark moments and offering care to those around us. There should not be shame or fear attached to advocating for your wellness!
