Growing up in Southern California, away from my biological family, away from the powwows, the traditions (and the fry bread) was extremely hard for me growing up. I’ve never felt good, or involved enough to hold the title of “Native” or “Cocopah” (my tribe) This video gave me the chance to express the suppressed lifelong feelings I had growing up. It expresses the importance of writing my own path, and not taking what I have for granted. The turquoise necklace I hold in the ending shot symbolizes the need to hold on and cherish to what I do have in terms of culture. Please enjoy!
