To Not Be Me

by

The main character is a teen girl who suffers from body/face dysmorphia. At school, she always compares herself to other girls. She feels isolated and alone in her struggles. One day, she completely breaks down in front of everybody, overwhelmed by her struggles. When her classmates find out about her struggles, she is surprised to hear that many of them also struggle with body image issues and often compare themselves to others. Though not as severe as the main character’s, they feel like they can understand what the main character is going through. The lesson that I want the audience to learn is that we think we are alone in our struggles when we’re really not. Another lesson I want people to learn is that there shouldn’t be so much pressure on young girls to always look good and be flawless. The main message of the film is that we suffer more in our imagination than in reality. We aren’t alone, even when we feel like we are.
